BDS Appointed by Gloucester County Cricket Heritage Trust

02/09/2014

2015 is the Centenary of the death of W.G. Grace, one of the World’s most famous cricketers.

Gloucester County Cricket Heritage Trust, who are custodians of many of W.G. Grace artefacts, intend to build a museum at the Gloucester Cricket Ground honouring the great man as well as other famous cricketers such as Wally Hammond and Brian Lara, whose cricket artefacts they also hold.

GCCHT have appointed BDS Sponsorship to develop a sponsorship strategy to help them achieve this objective. BDS has developed an approach which, in Stage One, will be a national touring exhibition that visits a number of high footfall locations, such as railway stations and major shopping centres, so as to obtain maximum exposure both for The Museum and for a sponsor.

With the Australian cricket team arriving in the UK in 2015 for the Ashes interest in cricket will be very high.

It is also highly relevant as W.G. played in the now notorious test in 1882 where England’s defeat led to the proclamation of the death of English cricket and hence the birth of the term “The Ashes”. Indeed it is W.G. Grace whose gamesmanship is reputed to have fired up the Australian bowler Spofforth and whose subsequent 14 wickets in the test led to the Australians winning the match!

Drive time at AJ Bell World Squash Championships as Maserati motor into Manchester

14/11/2013

BDS Sponsorship is delighted to announce securing Maserati, one of the world’s most iconic luxury sports car brands, as the latest partner of the AJ Bell World Squash Championship which takes place in Manchester, England, from 26 October to 3 November.

It will be the first time in the famous Italian car manufacturer’s 99-year history that they have sponsored this sport in the UK and they are now set to play a prominent role in the most prestigious squash tournament in the world.

Maserati’s involvement is a coup for the competition which will feature 64 of the planet’s best squash players battling it out for the right to be crowned champion of the world on November 3. Indeed, its top model –Egyptian Ramy Ashour – has just secured a ninth successive Professional Squash Association Tour win in America. The Cairo-born star’s victory over French challenger, Gregory Gaultier, the world number two, in the final of the Netsuite Open in San Francisco, extended his unbeaten run to 45 matches.

Ashour will be hoping to retain the title he won in 2012 but he will face stiff competition from World Number Two Gregory Gaultier of France and Britain’s duo of two-time world champion Nick Matthew and James Willstrop, a former world number one.

James Cowan, Marketing Manager GB, Maserati North Europe said

“We’re delighted to be supporting the 2013 Men’s World Squash Championship in Manchester. It is the very first time Maserati GB has had involvement in squash, but we are excited to be taking part in such an important and world-class tournament for the sport. Maserati and squash are a perfect partnership with accuracy, agility, power and performance, all key elements and characteristics representative of both our cars and the sport.”

“We’re delighted to welcome Maserati on board as the latest partner of the 2013 AJ Bell World Squash Championship,” said PSA Chief Executive Alex Gough.

“Maserati are an iconic brand associated with world-class performance and it is fitting that they will be associated with the World Championships, which itself promises to deliver a week of world-class sporting action in Manchester this autumn.”

AECC Arena title sponsorship with GE Oil & Gas

02/08/2013

BDS Sponsorship is proud to announce its brokering of a new naming rights sponsorship.

BDS was employed by AECC (Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre), a leading venue in the Aberdeen business community and host venue for Offshore Europe, one of the largest oil & gas events in the world.

The work encompassed the full sales cycle, from initial research and the creation of a bespoke strategy which was then brought to market. The final deal involves a 10-year agreement which will see the Arena being re-named the ‘GE Oil & Gas Arena, Aberdeen’.

Richard Busby, CEO of BDS Sponsorship said, “Seeking sponsorship on behalf of AECC was a fascinating challenge as the venue and the Aberdeen business community is unique. Whereas many comparable venues attract sponsors from B2C brands, we at BDS were convinced that sponsorship of AECC would be even more attractive for Aberdeen-based B2B brands.

Several insights led BDS to this approach; the Aberdeen business community is expanding incredibly fast, primarily fuelled by the oil & gas sector and yet the city’s overall population is relatively small. As a result recruitment and staff retention are key objectives for many companies there. Since AECC hosts not only A-list entertainment acts but also a number of prestigious business conferences an Aberdeen-based B2B brand can engage with its customers, staff and potential employees all under one roof.”

Brian Horsburgh, Managing Director of AECC, commented: “We are delighted to have a global brand company such as GE Oil & Gas as a key sponsorship partner. We see many positive benefits from working with them and we are looking forward to developing these with the GE Oil & Gas Team. This is the first stage of our plan to secure two or three key sponsors for the Venue to develop long-term partnerships with.”

“GE Oil & Gas are delighted to have concluded an agreement with the AECC to be the Title Sponsor of the Arena ahead of the Offshore Europe event in September,” confirmed Neil Gazeley, Communications Leader – Subsea Systems GE Oil & Gas. “The Arena is a hugely important venue for Aberdeen, hosting a range of industry and social events that support the local economy and community. Being just across the road from the Global Headquarters of our Subsea Business, we already had very strong links with the venue and strengthening the relationship seemed a natural thing for us to do.”

Gazeley went on to explain the key factor for GE Oil & Gas; “our business is experiencing tremendous growth, we are busy recruiting additional employees and this deal will help us to create awareness of the fantastic opportunities the oil and gas Industry offers and promote the GE Oil & Gas brand across the region as an employer of choice.”

With over 600 events, and 300,000 people coming through the Venue each year, this new partnership will further enhance AECC’s position as The National Energy Exhibition Centre and the key conference and exhibition Venue in the North-East of Scotland.

The Arena hosts concerts, comedy and sporting events, large dinner dances (including the annual Energy Ball), trade and public exhibitions (Offshore Europe, Your Wedding Exhibition, The Scottish Home Show) and many large conferences each year.

Sponsorship Measurement & Evaluation: Second Edition

15/07/2013

The new reality for sponsorship will be dominated by one thing: value.

The second edition of the Sponsorship Measurement and Evaluation report, written by BDS Sponsorship’s Fraser Houlder and published by Sport Business, provides the tools to compete.

“If the sports business doesn’t measure then we will have a serious problem. The sports properties that work harder to show how their sponsors are deriving value will be the ones that continue to attract attention. Get the metrics right because if you get that right you can show value, and if you can show value you will continue to get investment.”
Giles Morgan, Head of Sponsorship and Marketing, HSBC.
